Life is busy. We totally get it. It seems like every weekend there is something to do, fix, or catch up on. So many people have expressed to me that they just don’t have the time or money to schedule family photos every year. Here are 3 reasons why it’s so important to schedule and budget for a family session every year.
1. Babies don’t stay babies
If you have kids I don’t need to tell you this, but they are ever-changing! Especially during the newborn to toddler phase. Their faces and expressions are constantly developing. Trust me! You want those cute little faces captured forever. When they are all grown-up, those pictures of their nose scrunching up or their chubby little fingers wrapped around yours are going to give you the warmest feelings and it’s an amazing feeling to have just from looking at a picture.
2. Life is Unpredictable
Not to get dark here, but unfortunate things happen in life. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring. Make time to take photos with your loved ones. You never know when the last time will be that you can take a photo with someone. I recently lost my beloved grandmother and I’m so grateful for all the photos we have of her with my family.
3. Capture Memories (duh!)
During your family session, you are creating new memories. Your feelings, your smiles, your children, and, for better or worse, your clothes are all existing in that moment. Capturing that moment in time may not seem important now, but when everyone is older and wiser (what were you thinking with that outfit!) you will cherish these photo memories. They tell the story of you! These are the photos that you will share with your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren so everyone can laugh at how Dad used to dress or Mom’s crazy hair. Photos can strengthen the family bonds. (insert sappy music here)
If you plan and prioritize, you can make it happen! If time is your issue, book a session months in advance when your schedule is clear. Be determined not to let anything get in the way. With us sessions can be modified to fit your schedule, so if all you have is 30 minutes we will make it work. If your concern is being able to afford it, try some of these suggestions.
- Schedule it into your budget every year ( viewing it this way seems less of an expense)
- Try not buying lunch/dinner/coffee out for a month or two – buying food adds up very quickly, if you did this for a month Im sure you would have more then enough saved for a session.
- Ask your photographer if they offer payment plans; we do 😉
